New power calculation tool
AUGUST 2015: To determine the right power of your heater is not always an easy job. Indeed it depends on different factors such as:
- Minimum ambient temperature
- Desired temperature
- Time at disposal to reach this desired temperature
- Coolant capacity
- Engine displacement
- Oil capacity
Downsizing the power of your heater can reduce its lifetime because it would run all the time to try to reach the target temperature. The heating element would wear out quicker.
The consequences on the end-user could be terrible. Imagine a generator set in a hospital that would not start because the engine has not reached the desired temperature. The outcome would be dramatic.
Oversizing the power of your heater could also reduce its lifetime. Indeed the thermostat would switch more often and would reach its number of on/off cycles in a shorter period of time.
That’s why Carlor has developed with the help of the University of Liège in Belgium a mathematic model that helps determine the power of your heater.
